🏭 What waste is generated during furniture production?

The production process of upholstered furniture includes many stages - from cutting wood and fabric to assembly and packaging. Each of these stages is accompanied by the formation of various types of waste:

🪵 1. Wood scraps

  • Sawdust

  • Plywood, chipboard, timber scraps

  • Old pallets and boxes

🧵 2. Fabric and leather scraps

  • Fabric scraps after cutting

  • Scraps of artificial and genuine leather

🧽 3. Leftover foam rubber and fillers

  • Foam crumbs

  • Scraps of synthetic padding, holofiber, latex

📦 4. Packaging materials

  • Cardboard, stretch film, polyethylene

  • Strapping tape, foam

🧪 5. Other waste

  • Empty containers from glue, paints, varnishes

  • Metal fittings (marriage or leftovers)

♻️ How We Recycle Waste: A Step-by-Step Approach

In the company Linea Rosso we have implemented multi-level waste sorting and recycling system, which covers all stages of production.

✅ 1. Sorting and accounting

At each production site, containers for separate waste collection are installed:

  • wood and sawdust

  • fabrics and upholstery

  • package

  • metal

  • household waste

We strictly ensure that waste is not mixed - this makes recycling more efficient.

🪵 2. Recycling of wood waste

  • Sawdust and shavings are sent for pressing and used as fuel for heating industrial premises in winter.

  • Plywood and chipboard scraps are used for the production of non-standard furniture or auxiliary elements (stencils, pallets, templates).

  • Substandard wood is transferred to local workshops or burned in special boilers with filters (without emitting harmful substances).

🧵 3. Disposal of fabrics and leatherette

  • Small cuttings used in the production of pillows, poufs and decorative elements.

  • Skin scraps are used to create samples, tests and small accessories.

  • Excess fabric sometimes they are transferred to educational institutions, where they are used in practical classes.

🧽 4. Reusing fillers

  • Foam crumbs They are not thrown away, but pressed and used for stuffing pillows and soft seats.

  • Sintepon and holcon They are cut into small pieces and used in packaging or as a backing in inexpensive products.

  • Natural materials (e.g. coconut coir, latex) are returned to suppliers for recycling.

📦 5. Packaging recycling

  • Cardboard and paper are handed over for waste paper.

  • Film and plastic are sorted and sent to processing plants.

  • Damaged pallets are repaired and reused, and broken ones are disposed of as wood.

🛠️ 6. Responsible disposal of hazardous waste

  • Remains of glue, varnish and paint do not drain into the sewer, and are transferred to specialized companies for safe disposal.

  • Empty container disposed of in accordance with environmental safety standards.
